October 10, 2024 - As relief efforts continue in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, Sterling Health Care (SHC) employees were hard at work yesterday afternoon packing various supplies to aid in the support being sent to areas affected by the storm. The supplies were delivered to Bethel, KY, on Thursday.
According to the National Weather Service, Helene, classified as a Category 4 hurricane, hit land late at night on Saturday, Sept. 26 and continued throughout Sept. 27. The storm resulted in severe damage throughout southern states, including Florida and the Carolinas, leaving unprecedented flooding, property damage, and hundreds of fatalities in its wake.
Several states have deployed National Guard members to aid in search and rescue operations, while organizations at the federal, state, and local levels work to provide resources such as food, water, and shelter to those affected by the storms. With the landfall of Hurricane Milton taking place early Oct. 10, the damage in the Southern Appalachian area is continuing to grow.
Sterling Health Care’s mission is to improve the lives for all people in the communities we serve, through improved health, regardless of their ability to pay.
