June 18, 2026 - A steady stream of caring donors passed through Sterling Health Care’s (SHC) doors on Wednesday, June 17th, to join SHC employees and others in providing the gift of blood. The blood drive was the eighth such partnership between SHC and the American Red Cross (ARC) since October 4, 2024, and resulted in 86 percent of available appointment slots being filled and 31 units of blood collected.
“Each drive, we continue to have many first-time donors who subsequently sign up for future drives,” stated Jennifer Hager, SHC Clinical Manager. “We have also added Power Red donations, safely collecting two units of red blood cells while returning plasma and platelets to the patient. This automated process doubles the life-saving impact by helping twice as many patients.
“Hosting blood drives aligns with the mission of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) by promoting community health, improving access to life-saving resources, and encouraging community engagement,” Hager added. “Blood donations are essential for trauma patients, individuals undergoing surgery, cancer patients, and those with chronic illnesses who rely on a stable blood supply. By hosting blood drives, we demonstrate our commitment to preventative health, community partnerships, and addressing public health needs beyond traditional clinic care. Every donation has the potential to save multiple lives, making blood drives a meaningful extension of our mission to improve the lives of those in the communities we serve.”
Overall, a total of 245 units of blood have been collected in SHC’s eight blood drives, with an opportunity to add to those numbers at the next drive scheduled for Aug. 27, 2026. It also will be held at the SHC Administration Building, located at 236 W. Main Street in Mount Sterling, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Anyone interested in donating can register online at https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/drive-results?zipSponsor=SterlingHC.
